To understand how the site is used and improve it. Lawful basis: my legitimate interest in running a useful website.
I will only use your email to send you the things you signed up for and the occasional related update. I won't bombard you, and I won't use it for anything you didn't agree to.
Who else can see it
I use third-party services to run the site and send emails, and your information passes through them:

These providers process your data on my behalf under their own terms and security measures. I do not sell your personal information to anyone, ever, and I don't share it with third parties for their own marketing.
Some of these providers do store or process data outside the UK. Where they do, they're required to protect it to a standard equivalent to UK data protection law.
How long I keep it
I keep your email address for as long as you're subscribed. If you unsubscribe, I'll remove you from the active list. If you ask me to delete your data entirely, I will.
